Will Semco affect my caulking? No - Semco will not affect any manufacturers graded marine caulking, the process associated to the Semco application is designed in such a way not to interfere. We recommend that you try a test area first just in case the caulking on the vessel is not graded in accordance to marine recommendations, this can lead to the often cheaper and inferior caulking being left sticky. Should this be the case then just call us and we can advise further.
How is Semco different from others? Semco Sealers allows the wood to breathe. Wood expands and contracts naturally throughout all weather conditions, by using Semco it enables the wood to naturally live and breath. Semco does not block or obstruct the surface of the wood, this is because its naturally taken on by the wood and soaks into the wood and therefore protects from the core, avoiding cracking and splitting that many other competitor products can cause.
When was Semco established? Semco was first established in 1976. It was and continues to be used by thousands of professional boat builders. Thankfully due to it's popularity and performance it is now available worldwide for everyone to use. This allows not just the marine industry and market to benefit but all of us gaining the true professional protection and finish we always wanted.
How long does unused Semco last? If you have any Semco left over once you have finished your project - just replace the lid to form an airtight seal, to achieve this then gently turn the tin upside down for approximately 5 seconds then return upright to create a seal from within the tin. Semco should be stored above 5 degrees. Your Semco will be good for any top ups or projects you may have for at 5 years.
Can Semco be used on other woods apart from teak? Yes Semco can be used on any hard wood and also on pine. It has become a product of choice for may applications : Decking, Outdoor furniture, Fencing, Building Facias, Internal Doors & Furnishings and Antiques furniture.
Do you have any tips on applying Semco Sealer? Yes - Firstly, make sure the wood is DRY prior to sealing! For the best results follow this advise and you will maximise the results. Trying to cut corners at this stage is really not worth it. If you are unsure then please call us and we will advise you. Always use a lint free cloth or foam brush where you can; this will enable you to control where you are putting the sealer, avoiding flicks and splashes. When using Semco Sealer for the first time apply two coats - your first coat will be absorbed into the wood and almost disappear, it's the second coat that will give you the colour and result you've chosen. On future applications you can choose to do one or two coat top-ups for maintenance.
If you are in doubt at any point of the process just call or email us - we are always here to help.
